- Heat Rashes
- Bacterial Infections
Heat and humidity are renowned triggers for oil production, breakouts, and clogged pores. The question is how do we protect our skin and what are the solutions to these nerve-racking skin problems?
Scientific facts state that prolonged sun exposure increases the shedding of dead cells on the skins surface, these eventually become blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. If the skin’s moisture is not replaced, its defense will be to produce more oil, which can lead to clogged pores and acne flare-ups.
1- Adapting your Skincare
Skincare routines should be changed according to the season. For example, in summer, hydrating and lighter water-based lotions such as humectants like Hyaluronic Acid offer the hydration your skin needs without clogging pores. Using gel cleansers helps break down any impurities and works well when followed by a toner to dry up any excess oil.
Wearing sunscreen alone is not enough in taking care of your skin in warm climates. When it comes to applying your skincare routine (morning and evening), layer your products starting with the lightest (toners and serums) and building up to the heaviest (lotions and sunscreen).
Sunscreen is non-negotiable and vital in protecting your skin from sun damage. However, if you have acne-prone skin, greasy SPF is a big no-no. Choose your sunscreen according to your skin type, if oily, use an oil-free sunscreen. If dry, use a creamy and moisturizing sunscreen (SPF 35 is a minimum requirement).
2- Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Dehydration can lead to increased oil production and, in turn, more breakouts. The lack of water intake shows up on the skin and staying hydrated is a requirement all year-round, but especially in the summer as sweating is increased.
Hydration doesn’t just start with drinking more water, it also starts in the products you use. Using water-based products, mists and Hyaluronic Acid gives your skin that extra hydration that is much needed.
3- Use Protection!
The summer sun can be so harsh in certain countries that it can scorch your skin to the extent that it causes red patches and rashes. This usually happens to those who have sensitive skin. In this case active sun-tanning and exposure should be minimized. It is equally important to always wear sunscreen, even indoors. Make sure to re-apply sunscreen every 3 hours to ensure continuous protection. Our mineral defense SPF delivers broad spectrum protection against UV rays. It helps guard skin against sun damage, early skin aging, and the breakdown of collagen to help maintain a healthy skin barrier.
4- Update your makeup routine
During the warm weather months, it’s best to avoid using heavy, thick make-up products. It’s best to go for high quality mineral makeup which is free of oil, fragrance and other additives that clog pores. Avoid products that may cause irritation in the heat and humidity such as fragrance, emollients and sulfates which only aggravate the skin.
5- Get Laundered!
